This 9th Anniversary newsletter includes event announcements, member papers and essays as well as recent research and news about 9/11/01.  Scholars for 9/11 Truth and Justice now has over 850 members and is continuing to grow every day with increasing numbers of people signing onto the challenges to the official story of 9/11/01.

Today, nine years after the attacks, people all over the world continue to not only discover, research, and discuss the challenges to the official story of the events that day, but importantly, to organize, strategize, create and spread media, speak out on street corners and in banners, to keep the questions alive.  We hope that keeping you informed about recent news and developments will inspire you, too, to take action.

We need to continue to seek the truth about 9/11

Over the past three years, a group of concerned Bloomington citizens has worked to raise the public consciousness about the need for 9/11 truth. These folks are sometimes called “conspiracy theorists” because they do not believe the official version of events. Once people get by their initial reactions to 9/11 questioning, however, much can be learned in the process.  To begin with, we all understand the definition of a conspiracy to be a secret plan, among two or more people, to commit a crime. Yet when faced with emotionally charged events like 9/11, many of us pretend that the definition of the word has changed.

‘The fictional basis for the war on terror’

Most people recognize that the events of 9/11 were the driving force behind the “War on Terror.” Less well recognized is the fact that this borderless war against an ill-defined enemy has expedited economic collapse, driven totalitarian legislation and generated a great deal of animosity against the United States throughout the world. The pain and suffering caused by 9/11 comes with an opportunity, however. Through a better understanding of those tragic events, we can achieve crucial insights that can not only end the wars but might ultimately lead to lasting positive change in human society.

In his recent essay “Toxic to Democracy,” Political Research Associates Senior Analyst Chip Berlet uses the very same methods of demonization by association that he so strongly opposes. Berlet convolutes historical context, ideological differences, and progressives vis-à-vis extreme conservative, neo-con, libertarians in a diatribe of meaninglessness.

c) Niels Harrit & Richard Gage, AIA, in Radio Debate

9/11 Debate

Richard Gage, from Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, and Dave Thomas  a physicist from New Mexicans for Science and Reason, joined Ian Punnett for the entire Coast-to-Coast program to debate how the World Trade Center buildings collapsed on September 11, 2001.  Physicist Kim Johnson and chemist Niels Harrit joined the discussion in hour three.

9/11 Truth News is intended to be an accessible and factually oriented first reference for those curious about 9/11 truth. Our movement must serve its audience and this site was created for that purpose.  The key to effectively serving this purpose is our strategy. That starts with the site being solely related to 9/11 truth and edited by four longtime movement activists. With a good deal of thought about who we need to reach and the obstacles that stand in the way of reaching them, the editors of 911truthnews.com will be publishing only that which we believe to be the best this movement has to offer.

David Chandler Updates: Two New Research Videos

1. ‘Clocking WTC7‘ is a graphic representation of the 5.4 second interval NIST originally used to deny freefall, before they re-interpreted the 5.4 second interval to include an unexplained 2.25 second period of absolute freefall.

2. What a Gravity-Driven Demolition Looks Like I have completed a video showing the analysis of the Balzac-Vitry controlled demolition that used hydrolics rather than explosives to initiate a total demolition. This analysis shows deceleration upon collision, as predicted in the paper, “The Missing Jolt: A Simple Refutation of the NIST-Bazant Collapse Hypothesis,” by Graeme MacQueen and Tony Szamboti. It also illustrates the symmetry of destruction, contrary to the “crush down” followed by “crush up” scenario propounded by Zdenek Bazant.

All that is required is participation by a small number of people already awake and willing to stand up and speak out for truth and justice. The laws of gravity – so absent from the NIST report – will take care of the rest.  So began the Civil Rights Movement. It did not begin with Martin Luther King. A great man did not appear from on high and lead the masses to victory. It began with regular people getting off the couch, getting together and standing up for truth and justice.

It has been reported that there was a “simulations team” working at NEADS the morning of September 11.  Was this team putting out the false tracks? If so, who were its members?

The International Center for 9/11 Studies has secured the release of hundreds of hours of video footage and tens of thousands of photographs used by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for its investigation of the collapse of the World Trade Center Twin Towers and Building 7. This material is being released to the Center under the Freedom of Information Act, in response to a lawsuit the Center filed against NIST. We are currently looking at the best ways to distribute these materials to interested researchers and journalists around the world.

b) 9/11 Museum: “Every Artifact is Evidence of Destruction”

The way that 9/11 is remembered will soon be transformed.  Located beneath a maze of construction at Ground Zero, the National September 11 Memorial Museum is taking shape and has made significant progress. Members of the media took a tour of the cavernous, 120,000-square-foot museum site on Tuesday.  The museum opening is slated for Sept. 11, 2012. Museum officials expect it to become one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations, drawing as many as seven million visitors a year.

d) Southern Poverty Law Center Attacks 9/11 Truth Movement

Russian TV Channel Pushes ‘Patriot’ Conspiracy Theories

At the time of the last anniversary of Sept. 11, the channel published a four-part series on its website titled  ”911 Reasons why 9/11 was (probably) an inside job.” The articles, by Russia Today commentator Robert Bridge, report uncritically on discredited notions about Sept. 11, including the possibility that a bomb inside the towers contributed to their collapse and that the CIA had advance knowledge of the attack. On March 10, one of Russia Today’s top stories was headlined “Americans continue to fight for 9/11 truth.” That story, about a Pennsylvania gathering of Sept. 11 truthers, reported incorrectly that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) listed Rudkowski’s We Are Change as a hate group along with the Ku Klux Klan. Top 10 Right-Wing Conspiracy Theories

In the weeks and months after the attacks, a subculture of “9/11 Truthism” emerged in which the attacks were seen as anything but a simple case of well-trained Al Qaeda operatives flying planes into landmark buildings. Instead, “truthers” argued that the World Trade Center buildings were destroyed by controlled demolitions, that a missile brought down United Airlines 93, and that a missile — and not an airliner at all — struck the Pentagon. The instant this Mosque fiasco turned into a full-blown media circus it became clear that the Truthers had to come up with some sort of position on the matter. From their point of view, of course, there’s nothing terribly offensive about putting a Mosque at Ground Zero because, after all, the Muslims and al Qaeda had nothing to do with 9/11. Instead it was George Bush, Dick Cheney, the CIA, the Mossad, the Council of Foreign Relations and whoever else was hanging out behind the conspiratorial curtain.

A new report released by a think tank called Demos warns of the hazardous effects of conspiracy theories on society and recommends strategies for governments to mitigate these effects, including the infiltration of websites. The report, called The Power of Unreason: Conspiracy Theories, Extremism and Counterterrorism, says “most notoriously and influentially, the ‘9/11 truth movement’ has questioned the official accounts of 9/11 and has become a large and growing political force.”

h) Review of the new Brett Smith film, Hypothesis

The film contains some priceless exchanges and interviews with random students and the administration officials at BYU, which are enlightening, frightening, and humorous. Most impressive are the interviews with Dr. Jones’s scientific collaborator Dr. Jeffrey Farrer, as well as views of the lab and their experiments. There is an excellent clip documenting the circumstances of the gathering of the first dust sample that Dr. Jones and Dr. Farrer examined together.  The most dramatic, surprising, and damning interview, however, was with the man, C. Martin Hinckley, who first threatened Jones and then tried to bribe him to stop his research on the evidence of explosives. His threats in fact materialize later in the media attacks and the administrative leave that ended Professor Jones’s teaching career at BYU.

It has been over a year since the most recent peer-reviewed scientific article was published on the finding of energetic materials in the WTC dust.  During this time, the article was personally delivered to members of Congress and others in positions of power. Some of those leaders, like 9/11 Commission co-chairman Lee Hamilton, have repeatedly declined invitations to discuss the evidence. But ultimately, there has been no official response by the U.S. government, and we have seen only apathy or feigned ignorance in response to these explosive findings. In the last few months, however, one of the people who did the most to cover-up the crimes of 9/11 has surfaced again, and is requesting samples.

May I take this occasion to wish all of you a Happy New Year.

In the past I have urged all to acquire at least a three-month (preferably 1-year) supply of food and water, wherever this is legal. Now to add to this – I urge you to have a rural place of safety to go quickly to, perhaps in groups of families or friends, far away from the large cities. In a case where trucking of food into the cities is curtailed, or the electric power is out, or an EMP blast, or any number of scenarios where services to cities are cut, it will clearly be prudent to have pre-arranged retreat(s). The goals of self-sufficiency and voluntary-simplicity that some have been discussing “theoretically” in the Truth Movement for years can be quickly achieved with pre-planning and work and cooperation.

I anticipate an adventuresome 2010, for I think the next several years will prove an adventure for all of us. We’re in it together.

Following a grueling 14+ hour plane trip to Australia as the start of the 2009 Australasia/Japan Tour, Richard Gage, AIA has crossed the International Date Line. This means that, based on San Francisco Bay Area time (America/Los_Angeles Time Zone and all of the U.S.), it will often be tomorrow in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The current time difference is +19 hours.

Mr. Gage left for Australia on Sunday, November 8, so that he would arrive in time to be with local activists on their 11th of the Month rally. See photos in the gallery and the Tour Blog at the left column of the tour page. Mr. Gage’s first presentation will be on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. as part of The Hard Evidence Conference.

The Hard Evidence Tour

After 9/11, BYU prof. Steven Jones’ teaching career imploded just like the twin towers, but he still insists planes were not to blame.

The equation for free fall is pretty basic. Drop anything—from a dime to a rock—from a tall building, for example, and once that object hits an acceleration of 9.8 meters per second squared, it’s free falling. This equation applies to everything, even to buildings.

In the fall of 2005, Brigham Young University professor Steven Jones presented this simple principle in a BYU campus auditorium packed with hundreds of people to illustrate how several of the World Trade Center towers fell too quickly on Sept. 11, 2001, to have only been hit by planes. To reach free-fall speed, Jones explained, the building’s floor supports would have needed to be blown apart. In other words, the carnage of 9/11 would have required another catalyst of destruction beyond hijacked planes—an explosive to cause the buildings to implode.

The discussion ran two hours and only ended because students began arriving for a class to be held in the room. Before concluding, Jones asked if anyone was not convinced more investigation was needed. Only one professor raised his hand. “And he tracked me down the next day on campus and told me I changed his mind,” Jones says.

a) New Essays Debunk National Geographic’s 9/11 Hitpiece

Finally, an Apology from the National Geographic Channel

The website for the new television show also suggests that the National Geographic Channel’s apology will be offered directly by the Turkish professor Mete Sözen, a long-time supporter of government myths about terrorism.  Sözen is not just a professor at Purdue but was a leader of the FEMA investigation into what happened at the Pentagon on 9/11. He was also the director of the Department of Defense’s Blast Mitigation for Structures program, and is therefore another example of the many explosives experts that came up with only non-explosive stories for what happened on 9/11

In March 2009, Prof. David Ray Griffin and I and Gregg Roberts exchanged emails with Robert Erickson which demonstrate our efforts to get Mr. Erickson and his team to be accurate and fair in their treatment of our scientific work regarding 9/11 – particularly the evidence for the use of explosives in the World Trade Center destruction. National Geographic Does 9/11:
Another Icon Debased in Service of the Big Lie

The 2009 iteration of this spectacle is notable for the contrast between the designated brand and the obligatory message. That brand, best known for its high-brow photojournalistic National Geographic Magazine, has existed since 1889, complete with a non-profit Society dedicated to education in geography, archaeology, history, world cultures, and natural science. One can’t help but wonder how National Geographic’s many benefactors would feel if they understood how the brand was being used to prop up the “War on Terror” with its Popular-Mechanics-style attack piece to be aired on August 31, 2009.

Interview with Denver PBS Producer Shari Bernson

This episode of Visibility 9-11 welcomes to the program Shari Bernson, Membership Director and Executive Producer at KBDI-TV, Channel 12 in Denver Colorado.  KBDI has taken bold steps in recent months with an historic airing of 9-11 Press for Truth in June 2009, and 9-11 Blueprint for Truth in August 2009. The interview provides a behind the scenes look at some of the decision making processes which went into selecting this documentary for airing.  See “Viewer Buzz” at KBDI for the many supportive and thankful comments following the program. As Dr. Legge stresses, there are two essential points to note:

To see them, see who they are, and hear their words, is direct evidence of what many have pointed out over the years — those in the “engineering community” have often not read the official reports and have typically not even seen the videos of events like the destruction of Building 7 since that Tuesday in 2001.  This was made clear during interviews with attendees at the 2009 National AIA Convention who often expressed surprise at the videos of the destruction events of the WTC, which they were completely unaware of.

And, like almost everyone else, the engineering community around the world has put their faith in the officials of the NIST and FEMA to have actually explained what happened.  As it turns out, engineers are not unlike everyone else — if the officials reports are wrong, it’s easier to just try to ignore such information because to acknowledge it can instill feelings of confusion, guilt and even horror.

Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe

The Open Chemical Physics Journal, 2009, 2, 7-31

Abstract: We have discovered distinctive red/gray chips in all four of the separately collected samples of dust produced by the destruction of the World Trade Center. The chips in these samples show marked similarities. One sample was collected by a Manhattan resident about ten minutes after the collapse of the second WTC Tower, two the next day, and a fourth about a week later. The properties of these chips were analyzed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (XEDS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The red material contains grains approximately 100 nm across which are largely iron oxide, while aluminum is contained in tiny plate-like structures. Separation of components using methyl ethyl ketone demonstrated that elemental aluminum is present. The iron oxide and aluminum are intimately mixed in the red material. When ignited in a DSC device the chips exhibit large but narrow exotherms occurring at approximately 430 ?C, far below the normal ignition temperature for conventional thermite. Numerous iron-rich spheres are clearly observed in the residue following the ignition of these peculiar red/gray chips. The red portion of these chips is found to be an unreacted thermitic material and highly energetic.

In this interview Kevin Ryan discusses the science and psychology of 9/11. He also mentions an upcoming paper that provides strong evidence of incendiary residues found in the World Trade Center dust. Ryan, who is one of the co-authors of the paper, says that it is “…much more conclusive than anything we’ve published before, and is supported by considerable physical testing.”

KR: In my experience, there has not been much of a discussion between those who support the official story and those who do not. My colleagues and I have tried to get the official investigators to meet with us for discussion or debate, but with little success. My local group did meet with Lee Hamilton last year, since he was the congressman from our area and still keeps an office here in Bloomington. He gave us many excuses for why his 9/11 Commission report was not adequate, and has stated in his book that he felt he was set up to fail (see the revealing interview here http://www.cbc.ca/sunday/911hamilton.html). Mr. Hamilton also told us that he was not opposed to a new investigation, as long as it was not intended to simply find fault with his investigation. We have since invited him to several events but he has not agreed to join us in public.

a) 9/11 Widow Dies on Buffalo Plane Crash

Beverly Eckert, a well respected co-founder of “Voices of September 11,” an advocacy group for survivors and 9/11 families, died tragically on February 13th, 2009, in a plane crash in Buffalo New York.

Beverly Eckert became a member of the Family Steering Committee, the group of relatives who in 2002 and 2003 spearheaded the public fight for a 9/11 commission, against resistance from the White House.

One of the questions asked by the 9/11 Family Steering Committee was of particular relevance to Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice, which focuses on the use of the scientific method to expose the truth of the events of 9/11/01.  Here was a question they proposed to be asked of the 9/11 Commission, a question that was never asked –

13. On 9/11, no aircraft hit WTC 7. Why did the building fall at 5:20 PM that evening? Larry Silverstein is heard on a PBS tape saying “I remember getting a call from the, E.R., fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, “We’ve had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.” And they made that decision to pull and we watched the [WTC 7] building collapse,” said Larry Silverstein, WTC Leaseholder. – PBS (9/10/02) Does “pull” mean demolished? What do you know about this?

Beverly Eckert participated in a number of lawsuits around Sept 11th, with the express purpose of gaining discovery and accountability about the events of the day. b) Beijing Hotel Tower Fire (2009)

What can be learned about the behavior of tall buildings on fire from the CCTV Mandarin Oriental Hotel fire?

While several examples exist of buildings structurally similar to the WTC Towers having withstood similar or larger fires for longer, the CCTV Headquarters building was highly unique in both design and structure, and did involved some amount of concrete reinforcement of the structural steel.

Importantly, however, no part of the CCTV hotel building collapsed from the fire, which was reported to have lasted from between 3-6 hours.  And unlike the WTC Towers, in which the vast majority of each Tower was untouched by any fire damage at all, the CCTV Hotel Tower was entirely engulfed in flames from top to bottom.

Formally published in a peer-reviewed Chemical Physics journal, today:

“Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe” by Niels H. Harrit, Jeffrey Farrer, Steven E. Jones, Kevin R. Ryan, Frank M. Legge, Daniel Farnsworth, Gregg Roberts, James R. Gourley and Bradley R. Larsen

The paper ends with this sentence: “Based on these observations, we conclude that the red layer of the red/gray chips we have discovered in the WTC dust is active, unreacted thermitic material, incorporating nanotechnology, and is a highly energetic pyrotechnic or explosive material.”

In short, the paper explodes the official story that “no evidence” exists for explosive/pyrotechnic materials in the WTC buildings.

What is high-tech explosive/pyrotechnic material in large quantities doing in the WTC dust? Who made tons of this stuff and why? Why have government investigators refused to look for explosive residues in the WTC aftermath?

These are central questions raised by this scientific study.

The peer-review on this paper was grueling, with pages of comments by referees. The tough questions the reviewers raised led to months of further experiments. These studies added much to the paper, including observation and photographs of iron-aluminum rich spheres produced as the material is ignited in a Differential Scanning Calorimeter (see Figures 20, 25 and 26).

The nine authors undertook an in-depth study of unusual red-gray chips found in the dust generated during the destruction of the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001. The article states: “The iron oxide and aluminum are intimately mixed in the red material. When ignited in a DSC device the chips exhibit large but narrow exotherms occurring at approximately 430 ?C, far below the normal ignition temperature for conventional thermite. Numerous iron-rich spheres are clearly observed in the residue following the ignition of these peculiar red/gray chips. The red portion of these chips is found to be an unreacted thermitic material and highly energetic.” The images and data plots deserve careful attention.

Some observations about the production of this paper:

1. First author is Professor Niels Harrit of Copenhagen University in Denmark, an Associate Professor of Chemistry. He is an expert in nano-chemistry; current research activities and his photo can be found here:

Molecular Structures on Short and Ultra Short Timescales
A Centre under the Danish National Research Foundation

The Centre for Molecular Movies was inaugurated 29th November 2005, at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. The Centre is made possible through a five year grant from the Danish National Research Foundation (see e.g. www.dg.dk). We aim to obtain real time “pictures” of how atoms are moving while processes are taking place in molecules and solid materials, using ultrashort pulses of laser light and X-rays. The goal is to understand and in turn influence, at the atomic level, the structural transformations associated with such processes.

The Centre combines expertise form Risø National Laboratory, University of Copenhagen, and the Technical University of Denmark in structural investigation of matter by synchrotron X-ray based techniques, femtosecond laser spectroscopy, theoretical insight in femtosecond processes, and the ability to tailor materials, and design sample systems for optimal experimental conditions.”

We understand that the Dean of Prof. Harrit’s college, Niels O Andersen, appears as the first name on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Bentham Science journal where the paper was published.

3. Dr. Farrer is featured in an article on page 11 of the BYU Frontiers magazine, Spring 2005: “Dr. Jeffrey Farrer, lab director for TEM” (TEM stands for Transmission Electron Microscopy). The article notes: “The electron microscopes in the TEM lab combine to give BYU capabilities that are virtually unique… rivaling anything built worldwide.” The article is entitled: “Rare and Powerful Microscopes Unlock Nano Secrets,” which is certainly true as regards the discoveries of the present paper.

4. Kudos to BYU for permitting Drs. Farrer and Jones and physics student Daniel Farnsworth to do the research described in the paper and for conducting internal reviews of the paper. Dr. Farrer was formerly first author on this paper. But after internal review of the paper, BYU administrators evidently disallowed him from being first author on ANY paper related to 9/11 research (this appears to be their perogative, but perhaps they will explain). Nevertheless, the paper was approved for publication with Dr. Farrer’s name and affiliation listed and we congratulate BYU for this. We stand by Dr. Farrer and congratulate his careful scientific research represented in this paper.

5. Perhaps now there will finally be a review of the SCIENCE explored by Profs. Harrit and Jones and by Drs. Farrer and Legge and their colleagues, as repeatedly requested by these scientists. We challenge ANY university or established laboratory group to perform such a review. This paper will be a good place to start, along with two other peer-reviewed papers in established journals involving several of the same authors:

Important features of the research have been independently corroborated by Mark Basile in New Hampshire and by physicist Frédéric Henry-Couannier in France., proceeding from earlier scientific reports on these discoveries (e.g., by Prof. Jones speaking at a Physics Dept. Colloquium at Utah Valley University last year.) We understand that details will soon be forthcoming from these independent researchers.
